Bicycle Brent a Logan Favorite

A blurting bike horn: the first sign bicycle Brent is just around the corner. Across Utah State campus, down neighborhood streets, and even occasionally up hills too steep to ride. Brent travels the valley saying, "hi" to everyone he meets.  

Linda Carpenter, Brent's older sister, said she didn't fully understand what an icon Brent is in the valley until she saw with her own eyes the people who would gather on sidewalks just to wave when he passed.

Students Rally Around Collapsed USU Basketball Player

An on-court emergency last night landed a Utah State University basketball player in the hospital. UPR's Brianna Bodily reports on how students reacted and rallied around the player during the incident.

Students are still reeling after basketball player Danny Berger collapsed Tuesday night on the court. USU officials say after his collapse Berger wasn't breathing and medical units had to use a defibrillator to revive him. The news quickly traveled from student to student.

LDS Democrats Growing in Influence

"I am."

"I am."

"We are. And Elder [Jay] Jensen is. And President [James] Faust. And Silvia Allred. Brigham Young."

What do all of these people have in common? First, they're Latter-Day Saints. What is less known is that they're also Democrats.

Crystal Young-Otterstrom, the LDS Democrats Caucus vice chairperson, says the combination is actually more common than you might think.

"We're not that small of a minority, as people might think."

Utah Receives Grant Money for Work Sharing Program

Nearly $100 million in federal grant money has recently been made available to states. How will Utah use this money and how will it help our job market?

Under the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act, states have been attempting programs that will give employers an alternative to lay-offs. The U.S. Department of Labor recently announced a grant that is intended to aid states in the implementation of one of those programs.

Giving Undocumented Immigrants a Fighting Chance through "Deferred Action"

Funded by a coalition of Utah interest groups, a series of free workshops will soon be offered for undocumented immigrants who qualify for deferred action.

Chris Keen, the Utah chapter chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, says the coalition aims to give undocumented immigrants a fighting chance to remain in the U.S.
 

Organizers aim to use the workshops to answer all questions about the forms and work out any difficulties.

Logan Teens Perform Shakespeare in a Way Adults Rarely Do

In Logan a group of kids have chosen to spend their summer days rehearsing Shakespeare.

"A lot of people think I'm kind of crazy to think that kids would want to spend their entire summer doing this. I had to say 'if you're going to do the show, you'll be in here from 9:00 - 2:00 or 9:00 - 4:00 every day all summer.' I thought 5 kids would show up."
