A utility vehicle accident has claimed the life of a Cache County Sheriff's officer. Lt. Brian Locke was found Saturday evening in the Paradise Dry Canyon area.
Sheriff Chad Jensen says search and rescue crews were called to the area around 8:45 p.m. Saturday evening after Locke was found pinned under the vehicle. It appears the accident happened nine hours earlier. Locke and the side-by-side vehicle had rolled about 50 yards down a hill at the Cold Water Ranch private hunting reserve.
Weather kept helicopter crews from reaching Locke. Instead, he was transported by paramedics to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
Locke's career with the Cache County Sheriff's Office began in 1986 when he became a deputy. He served in the jail, as a patrol deputy, detective, patrol sergeant, as well as an investigations sergeant. In 2004, Locke was promoted to lieutenant where he served as the Deputy Jail Commander, Jail Commander and Patrol Commander. He most recently oversaw the Investigations Division and Search and Rescue.
