Cache Valley Man Dies From Injuries Following Explosion

A Cache County man has died from burn injuries following an early morning explosion at a plant in Promontory, Utah.

A fire at a northern Utah automotive products plant has claimed the life of a Cache Valley man. Box Elder County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dale Ward tells Utah Public Radio the man has been identified as 64-year-old Ronald Larsen of Cache Valley.

Emergency officials in Box Elder County were notified of a fire at the Autoliv facilities in Promontory around 2 o’clock Monday morning. Larsen was trapped inside the burning building. He was extricated and transported to Brigham City Hospital with severe burns where he later died.

Mr. Larsen was alone in the mixing portion of the building at the time of the incident. Deputy Ward says an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway. Because the accident is consider to be an industrial accident, OSHA officials will lead the investigation.

At 14-years-old, Kerry began working as a reporter for KVEL “The Hot One” in Vernal, Utah. Her radio news interests led her to Logan where she became news director for KBLQ while attending Utah State University. She graduated USU with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and spent the next few years working for Utah Public Radio. Leaving UPR in 1993 she spent the next 14 years as the full time mother of four boys before returning in 2007. Kerry and her husband Boyd reside in Nibley.
