In the inaugural Leonard J. Arrington Mormon History Lecture, Arrington himself was the speaker. His topic: “Faith and Intellect as Partners in Mormon History.” Joining us today is the 2013 lecturer, Dr. Gregory Prince, who adapts Arrington’s title, calling his lecture “Faith and Doubt as Partners in Mormon History.” A scientist by profession, Prince is also a published historian of Mormonism.
His books include: “David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism.” Prince was also interviewed with several other leading figures in Mormon studies for the PBS documentary “The Mormons.” Drawing on material from his latest project, a biography of Mormon historian Leonard Arrington, Prince’s lecture focuses on paradigm shifts in Mormon culture and how people’s faith, coupled with doubt, challenged conventional wisdom. Prince will give the 19th annual Arrington Mormon History Lecture, Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Logan LDS Tabernacle. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to public and is hosted by Utah State University’s Special Collections and Archives, a division of University Libraries.
