Gratitude Amidst Tornado Clean Up In Garfield County

garfield.utah.gov

Clean up continues in Panguitch. For the second time in less than two months, a rare tornado has touched down in Garfield County—the latest one, damaging businesses and homes in the heart of the county seat.

The storm pealed the roof off of John Yardley’s commercial building.  Staff had already gone home. Despite the personal loss, John is happy the twister didn’t hit the gas station and sandwich shop right next door.

“It could have been so much worst,” he said. “It could have injured someone and it could have been disastrous if it touched down on that service station subway with the gasoline and people and glass.”

A national weather service survey confirmed maximum winds of 110 miles-per-hour, an EF-1 category storm.
