Local Craftsmen Gather To Forge Foot Ware For Horses

The National Horseshoers Guild competition happens this month in Reno, Nevada

The lost art of ferrying, when craftsmen create shoes for horses, is taken seriously by those who compete to be recognized for the fine art of manipulating metals into a functioning form of footwear.

For Utah Public Radio, Utah State University Journalism student Colleen Smith produced this audio postcard of Utah’s Annual Horseshoers Guild competition held in Wellsville, Utah.

We hear from Karl Hoopes, an Equine Veterinarian at Utah State University in Logan. He and USU Vet. Science student Logan Centers are hoping to qualify for the National Ferrying Association competition to be held in Reno, Nevada later this month.
