Satellite Phone Call Boxes Connect Callers In Case Of Emergency

Courtesy Iron County Emergency Management

Emergency managers in Iron County have made it easier for people to reach help in case of emergency when visiting two of southern Utah’s more popular, but unconnected areas.

Because of little or no cell phone coverage, satellite phone emergency call boxes have been set up at the Iron County Shooting Range west of Cedar City and at Woods Ranch in Cedar Canyon.  The boxes offer a direct line between the caller and Iron County’s Emergency Dispatch Center, says Emergency Manager John Higley.

“Ground ambulances, air ambulance, law enforcement, the fire department," said Higley. "You know, those are the resources available to us and we want to make sure that they are available where we need them.”

Callers should be mindful the boxes are for emergency use only—use is the equivalent of dialing 9-1-1.
