DEVELOPMENT OFFICER I - Membership Manager

Position Summary

Utah Public Radio (UPR), a non-profit organization located in Logan UT, is a stateside service of Utah State University in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Development Officer I (Membership Manager) is responsible for managing all fundraising efforts to build overall membership in Utah Public Radio. Responsible for providing detailed database analysis and strategic leadership in the area of individual fundraising. This includes on-air pledge drives, direct mail, telemarketing, email, social media, and online giving. Goals are focused on increasing membership growth, retention, and levels of giving. This position works a part of a development team and reports directly to the General Manager.

Responsibilities

1.  Plan, implement, and manage membership development programs for Utah Public Radio, especially the two major on-air campaigns

  • Develop fiscal year membership plan to maximize all revenue streams 
  • Meet station fiscal year goals – revenue, new members, member retention
  • Create an annual calendar containing all membership elements in detail with due dates, expenses, revenue goals
  • Develop overall drive theme/messaging and incorporate into on-air messages, web presence, direct mail, telemarketing, promos, social media, and all other efforts
  • Secure campaign sponsors, listener challenges, and/or other fundraising incentives
  • Request custom promos consistent with drive theme/messaging from NPR, APM, PRI personalities
  • Write pitch point and script materials
  • Schedule and train volunteer
  • Analyze revenue performance and implement plans for improvement

2.  Maintain Allegiance database of members, prospects, and volunteers

  • Use comprehensive database analysis to determine key opportunities for targeted fundraising success
  • Maintain a superior working knowledge of Allegiance membership database
  • Be the point person for membership data inquiries for analysis, reporting, and development activities
  • Supervise all activities that utilize information contained in Allegiance
  • Provide perpetual assessment of all Allegiance data processes
  • Keep accurate and timely records

3.  Lead UPR efforts to grow membership

  • Analyze and report on trends and status of donors, locally and nationally
  • Identify and solicit new member prospects
  • Use public radio system and general fundraising best practices to identify prospective members
  • Conduct acquisition efforts via direct mail, e-communication, or other means of contact
  • Produce biannual spring and fall funddrive reports
  • Conduct trend analysis comparing UPR's current performance to past performances
  • Compare UPR's performance to similar stations nationally, utilizing provided research data and tools

4.  Manage UPR membership recognition program

  • Insure members receive premium gifts and thank you correspondence in a timely manner
  • Respond to all member communications and inquiries
  • Coordinate membership aspects of the community development events

5.  Promote and manage special events related to statewide membership program and solicitation and recognition

  • Organize or be a co-organizer of events as assigned and planned by the station.  Examples include membership/major donor dinners, volunteer celebrations, the presence of NPR or PRI personalities, and the hosting of live performances
  • Represent UPR membership interests in partnership events and opportunities

6.  Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

1.            Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

2.            2 years of related experience

3.            Proven track record of strategic database analysis and achieving revenue targets 

4.            Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail 

5.            Analytical and strategic thinking skills to solve problems and manage and improve revenue-generating activities

6.            Strong computer skills and proficiency with donor databases and software

7.            Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, ability to express self clearly and persuasively

8.            Proven success in digital fundraising strategies

9.            Ability to work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively

10.          Available to work outside regular hours during fundraising campaigns and events

Preferred Qualifications

1.            Experience working for and/or with a public broadcasting station

2.            Working knowledge of Allegiance membership software
