Weber School District is overhauling the way it deals with racism and discrimination with new policies and plans to hire a new administrator to focus on the issues.

School officials say they want to change the culture at the district, both in the ways they deal with specific instances and in encouraging students to speak out if they see something that isn't right.

Superintendent Jeff Stephens says he's been closely involved and recently met with Northern Utah's Black Lives Matter chapter.

The district has previously dealt with race-related incidents like a widely circulated video that appeared to show five high-school girls using a racial slur while laughing and a junior-high teacher using the N-word before the showing of a civil war movie.
