You May See Prescribed Burns Throughout The State This Month

Mary Heers

Residents in Cache and Box Elder counties saw skies darken Monday night. Winds sent smoke from two prescribed burns east. In Mendon ash from burning brush and invasive phragmites fell throughout the evening.

According to the Utah Fire Information service, there was a prescribed burn North of the Great Salt Lake at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. A smaller prescribed fire in Cache County burned brush in wetland areas near Mendon.

October is the month in Utah when it is legal to acquire a permit for burning brush and debris. More prescribed burns are scheduled for the Uintah Basin this week.
