This is Only a Test: Large-Scale Foreign Animal Disease Drill in Cache Valley

Citizens in Cache Valley can expect to see livestock transport vehicles pulled over during the drill.

Veterinarians and public safety responders from Utah and Idaho will be conducting a large-scale foreign animal disease exercise July 31 - August 2 in Cache Valley to quickly identify and contain a foreign animal disease.

Dr. Bruce King, Utah's State Veterinarian talks to Kerry Bringhurst about the importance of containing foreign animal diseases and why this exercise will involve so many agencies and individuals.

Hot June Explained by State Climatologist Robert Gillies

NOAA: June 2012 was 4th Warmest on Record for the Globe

June 2012 was the 4th warmest on record for the globe according to an analysis by the NOAA National Climatic Data Center. Warmer than normal temperatures were especially prevalent across the Northern Hemisphere, which, when analyzed separately, were the warmest June since records began in 1880.

ACLU of Utah Sounds Alarm Over Student Privacy

The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah says Utah schools aren’t doing enough to protect students’ privacy. Legal Director John Mejia says students who take the American Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB exam are having their information released to the military without their parents’ knowledge:

“Currently the system is that the schools are the ones that elect how the information is given to the military, and we’re concerned that the parents don’t have the final say in that.”

Trading Cards Show Kids What Scientists Look Like and What Scientists Can Do

USU alum Tamara Heartsill Scalley has her very own scientist trading card in the US Forest Service series.

The Natural Inquirer is a science journal directed at middle school-aged children, which has come out with its very own trading cards featuring US Forest Service scientists.

The people at the Inquirer found that teachers and students alike benefited from learning about the scientists behind their experiments.
