Aimee Winder Newton Announces 'Frugal Dougall' As Running Mate

Winder Newton/Dougall Campaign

On Tuesday morning, Aimee Winder Newton announced in a video on social media that Utah State Auditor, John Dougall, would be her running mate for the 2020 gubernatorial race.

Dougall,  who is often referred to as "Frugal Dougall" because of his dedication to reducing spending in the state, was elected as state auditor in 2013. Prior to that, he served in the Utah House of Representatives for a decade.

In the video announcing Dougall as her running mate, Winder Newton said she selected Dougall because of the decisions that will need to be made about the state's financial and economic needs.

"John's knowledge of tax policy combined with a long history of challenging bloated government programs has never been more important for our state," Winder Newton said in the video. "Utah has challenges ahead--looming economic pressures, rapid growth, a changing workforce and an imminent overhaul of the state tax code."

Dougall is has also declared he is running for reelection as state auditor.
