Anti-Viral Research At USU

Oct 29, 2020

Coronaviruses, hantavirus, Zika, West Nile, SARS, influenza. If a virus has made news in the past 40 years, chances are good that scientists in Utah State University’s Institute for Antiviral Research have worked to understand how it infects people and how it might be stopped.

Working closely with the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Defense and under contracts with private pharmaceutical and research companies, USU antiviral researchers, including students, use extensive safety protocols and work in secure labs to test vaccines and treatments developed to protect people against virus infections. Researchers are currently at work evaluating possible treatments for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
