Cache County Sheriff D. Chad Jensen released a statement Friday, saying he believes in the people of Cache County’s constitutional rights. This comes after President Biden unveiled new gun control executive orders last week after five people were shot and killed in South Carolina. Jensen said he earnestly believes in all of American’s guaranteed constitutional rights, including the right to freely own and operate a firearm. He said the “entire law enforcement family took an oath to support, obey and defend” these rights.
Jensen also wrote he supports all constitutionally-sound laws that penalize gun violence. He says it is “critical we continue to work to keep firearms out of the hands of those who would use them to commit acts of violence.” With that said, Jensen made clear he will never support any acts from the federal government when they infringe on the rights of the people.
Several shootings have occurred over the last few weeks including two Salt Lake County deputies shot on Saturday, ten people shot and killed in Boulder, Colorado and eight people shot and killed just outside of Atlanta, Georgia last month.
