In an age of vigilance, a Walmart shopper in Cedar City exercised just that on Monday. While the situation turned out to be a false alarm, the circumstances were suspicious enough to merit an abundance of caution, insists law enforcement.
Cedar City Police Lieutenant Keith Millet explains that a shopper observed a man wearing a mask and gloves drop a small package, using a pair of tongs into a U.S. Mail drop box outside the store. She thought the action suspicious and called police.
“She happened to get his plate number down and called the police department because she felt like it was pretty suspicious,” Millet said.
Cedar City Police were able to contact the person. The man explained that he handled the package in that way because he was allergic to its contents. Law enforcement had the man return to the store and open the package, which was found to be innocuous.
