Crews Use Heavy Equipment To Keep Utah Wildfire From Homes

National Park Service

Fire crews used heavy equipment to build a break between about 15 homes and a wildfire that has burned an estimated 4.7 sq. miles (12.2 sq. kilometers) in north-central Utah.

Fire officials said Thursday there was no containment of the fire burning in thick grass in steep terrain on both sides of West Mountain near Payson in Utah county but that no evacuations had been ordered.

No injuries were reported and cause of the fire wasn't immediately available.

Jason Curry of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands said firefighters attempted to protect structures fire by removing potential fire fuel from around the perimeter of homes.

Payson is 50 miles (81 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City.
