Eastern Utah Photographer Finds Beauty Among the Fossils

Randy Fullbright

Randy Fullbright has lived all around the world, but moved to Vernal, Utah in 1998 to open Fullbright Studios. The current site of Fullbright Studios is an old gas station that was converted into an art gallery, specializing in works inspired by the breathtaking natural beauty of the western landscape. Mr. Fullbright has made a name for himself as a landscape photographer, specifically a photographer of the vistas that surround Dinosaur National Monument.

“There were artists drawn to this country 1000 years ago, and why there aren’t any more artists here in Vernal, Utah today is beyond me…It’s Dinosaur National Monument. I can’t think of anything better to aim a camera at than Dinosaur. Every time you go out, it’s a different experience,” Fullbright said.

Mr. Fullbright’s dedication to taking the best photos possible has led him on dangerous journeys through the areas of Dinosaur National Monument, sometimes putting his life at risk.

“Standing on the edge of the Green River in ice, hoping the ice doesn’t break and you fall in the river. The wife would never forgive you for that one. She did buy me a GPS tracking device, so as she tells everybody, she knows right where to come and get the camera,” Fullbright said.

Randy Fullbright’s landscape photography was recently part of a museum exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. He hopes his photographs help Dinosaur National Monument become an official National Park.
