Former Utah Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Howe Dies At 97

The Utah Administrative Office of the Courts announced on Wednesday that former legislator and Utah Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Howe passed away on Saturday, June 19. He was 97 years old. Howe served on the Utah Supreme Court for 22 years, including 4 years as chief justice. He also served as speaker of the Utah house of Representatives for two years. He retired in 2002, at which time he was the only person to have served in the Utah senate, House of Representatives and Supreme Court.

The current Utah Supreme Court Justice Matthew B. Durant says Howe was a “model jurist” and his passing is a “great loss not only for our judicial family, but for the citizens of Utah.”
