With over a quarter of Utahns now vaccinated, Gov. Cox continues to urge people who have not recieved the vaccine to sign up.
“There’s also a group we haven’t talked much about, and those are kind of the vaccine casual," Cox said. "They want to get vaccinated, but they’re kind of waiting to make sure that other people have been able to get their vaccinations first. To all of you, I want to say that now is your time. We’re ready for you. We have ample doses.”
Cox was joined by Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson and state epidemiologist, Angela Dunn, at a weekly COVID-19 briefing on Thursday.
Gov. Cox said the state is at a plateau in COVID-19 cases, and supply for vaccinations is starting to outweigh demand. He says it is important for every Utahn who is capable to receive the vaccine to slow the spread even further.
Cox also announced the 2021 Impacted Small Business Catalyst Grants are available for Utah businesses that were hit the hardest during the pandemic. This applies to businesses, non-profits and organizations that experienced a 90% or greater revenue loss when comparing any four months of 2019 to the same four months in 2020.
“We encourage all of those severely impacted businesses to apply for that grant, as we know that this will be something that is very helpful to keep those doors open," he said.
Lt. Gov. Henderson said the state is still working to improve equity and accessibility of the vaccination. She announced Utahns may get a free Lyft ride to their COVID-19 vaccination in some counties.
As of Thursday, the seven day average of new cases is at 386, which is down from the previous week of 390.
Nearly two million vaccines have been administered in the state.
