Latter-Day Saint Church Gives $20M To Help Global Vaccine Distribution

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Friday that it donated $20 million dollars to UNICEF, a program aimed at distributing COVID-19 vaccines to poor countries around the world.According to a press release, the donation from the church’s humanitarian arm, Latter-day Saint Charities, is helping UNICEF deliver over 2 billion vaccine doses to about 196 countries by the end of 2021. The vaccines are intended for frontline workers, social workers and people who are vulnerable or at high risk.

The church tweeted Friday, saying it’s important to help and “reach out to those in need” as we continue to struggle through the pandemic.

Last year, the church donated $3 million dollars to contribute to UNICEF’s COVID-19 response that provided water and sanitation services to those in need.
