Politics And The State Of The Union With Frank Pignanelli And LaVarr Webb On Tuesday's Access Utah

Deseret News

On the day President Trump is set to deliver his first State of the Union Address, we’ll talk politics with Deseret News columnists LaVarr Webb and Frank Pignanelli.

We’ll talk about the state of the union and the state of the state. We’ll look ahead to the November elections and ask if there will be a Democratic wave and a change in control of the U.S. House of Representatives, will Mitt Romney run for U.S. Senate, and what are the prospects for Medicaid expansion at the 2018 Utah Legislature.

Republican LaVarr Webb is a political consultant and lobbyist. Previously he was policy deputy to Gov. Mike Leavitt and Deseret News managing editor. He is publisher of Utah Policy Daily. Democrat Frank Pignanelli is a Salt Lake attorney, lobbyist and political adviser. Pignanelli served 10 years in the Utah House of Representatives, six years as minority leader. His spouse, D'Arcy Dixon Pignanelli, is the president/CEO of the Special Olympics of Utah.

Tom Williams worked as a part-time UPR announcer for a few years and joined Utah Public Radio full-time in 1996. He is a proud graduate of Uintah High School in Vernal and Utah State University (B.
