Salt Lake City Mayor Asks City Council To Extend K-12 Mask Mandate

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall sent a letter to city council on Monday, asking for an extension on the city’s mask mandate as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the state.Mendenhall says the school children in Salt Lake City School District “appear to be healthier and better able to stay in person learning than other kids in Salt Lake County.” She says the school district has the lowest COVID-19 rates than any of the county’s five school districts.

Mendenhall also says that wearing a mask “does not seem to be impacting students’ ability to engage or to socialize.” She says she believes the mask mandate is working and needs to be extended.

The city council will vote Tuesday evening on whether or not to extend the mandate.
