The Riverdale Road Project will impact travel on north and southbound I-15 this weekend.

Listeners planning on driving though the Ogden area this weekend may want to give themselves a few extra minutes.

The ongoing Riverdale Road Project near Roy has reached its final stage of construction, and sections of I-15 will be closed to accommodate the installation of girders for the new interchange. Utah Department of Transportation’s Vic Saunders suggests planning ahead for your weekend travels.

“On Friday night, August 22 at 11:00 p.m. to Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., northbound I-15 is going to be closed at the Riverdale Road exit in Riverdale-Roy to support the placement of bridge girders on the new bridge at the new Riverdale Road interchange,” Saunders said.

Saunders said traffic will be rerouted around the construction on Friday.

“We will route all traffic off of I-15 onto Riverdale Road. They’ll proceed east down to I-84 and then at the I-84 interchange they’ll get back on the roadway northbound rejoining I-15 about a mile north of that area,” Saunders explained.

Southbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane through the construction area on Sunday night going into Monday morning between 11:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. Saunders said heavy congestion is expected and drivers are encouraged to exit on 31st street and take Hickory Drive to 1900 West.

Saunders said construction is slated to be completed this fall.

“The Riverdale road project is scheduled to be completed before Thanksgiving, so we’re right on target,” Saunders said. “This is one of the major milestones for that project.”

The project aims to improve traffic flow through the area.
