Son of Former NFL All-Pro Linebacker Signs With Utah State

The Utah State football team officially signed Rayshad Lewis, son of Ray Lewis. He signed a letter of intent, according to head coach Matt Wells.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound wide receiver/cornerback out of Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando Florida, says he chose Utah State because of the atmosphere of the school.

“I liked the community. I could tell that you guys were, I wouldn’t say want to say new to winning, but at the same time learning how to win. So, the community has really gotten behind the Aggies and you can tell you’ve put a lot of money into the program, as far as facilities and building a winning program, making sure they’re successful in the future, and it’s just an upcoming program that I would love to be a part of.”

He also received scholarship offers from seven other schools, including Appalachian State, Ball State and Toledo.

“I mean, Utah State was my first offer, meaning that they saw something in me before any of the other coaches really did. Before players have offers, coaches will think you’re really good, but no coach really wants to be the first to pull the trigger. Utah State was confident in pulling the trigger on me, even though I had no offers at the time. And Coach [Wells] really expressed that he can see me playing for him and be productive in his offense. And he just showed me that the love was there, and I really just appreciated it.”

Matt Wells says he is excited for Lewis to be part of the Aggies.

“He’s just a playmaker, and he’s got a lot of confidence. He’s quiet. He’s focused. I think he plays with a chip on his shoulder, which I love about him. He’s a competitive, competitive kid.”

Rayshad’s father, Ray Lewis, won Super Bowls XXXV and XLVII in his 17 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
