Summit County Declares State Of Emergency Due To Parleys Canyon Fire

Summit County officials issued a declaration of local emergency Monday night due to the ongoing Parleys Canyon fire that continues to burn. The declaration allows the county to extend evacuation orders in Summit Park, Timberline and Upper Pinebrook. As of Monday night, the fire has burned 539 acres and is 21% contained. There are currently 216 people assigned to fight the fire.

 

Managers from the Uinta-Cache National Forest System have issued a closure of forest property in the area of the fire, including roads, trails and picnic sites in Lambs Canyon and Maple Grove to Millcreek Canyon. 

 

According to the National Interagency Fire Center, there are currently 25,000 workers assigned to 97 large fires in the western states.
