Tragedy once again strikes the family of a transgender, woman, Ashley Hallstrom, who committed suicide seven months ago.
Ashley’s 58-year-old father, Calvin Hallstrom, was stabbed to deathThursday night. Police allege he was killed by his son, Ashley’s brother, 25-year-old Shane Hallstrom.
The Smithfield Police Department tells UPR, “Evidence at the scene immediately identified Shane as a person of interest in the case.” The police report also says Shane was on his way to spend time with his father, who divorced Ashley’s mother years ago.
Shane was booked into the Cache County Jail on suspicion of murder. As of now, there are no charges against him.
This family tragedy comes seven months after Shane’s sister, Ashley Hallstrom, passed away. She committed suicide in mid-October by stepping into traffic in Logan. Ashley published her suicide letter on Facebook and Reddit, highlighting her pain of being a transgender woman. That letter went viral.
