The Truth Behind Cache Valley Canyon Closure Rumors

Online rumors claim multiple Cache Valley canyons will be closed after Labor Day weekend due to trash dumping, human and animal waste, and ammunition and needles being left behind. However, this is not the case.

“The only cannon that is affected is Lefthand Fork of the Blacksmith Fork River and we have a project  to do some improvement and maintenance on the undeveloped campsites that are along the river,” said Jennefer Parker with the Logan Ranger District.

Parker said rumors that three local canyons will be closed after Labor Day Weekend are not true. However, there is some needed maintenance that is going to take place at Lefthand Fork.

“We'll be doing some placing of rocks and finds and fire rings to help define the campsite," said Parker. "So it's obvious where a campsite starts and ends, maybe moving them back from the river so that they're not affecting the growth of vegetation.”

With the exception of the fire rings, Parker said a similar project took place ten years ago.

"It's just time for some maintenance of that," Parker said. "People have moved the rocks, they've continued to enlarge the sights and kind of move back down to the river again. So we're basically just going back into kind of maintain those and do some improvements.”

The project will require dump trucks and excavators which is why the road will be closed off. Once the project is complete the road will be reopened.

There are currently no plans to close and work on campsites in any of the other canyons in Cache Valley.
