Utah Coronavirus Update, Wednesday, April 15

There are now 2,142 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Utah as of the daily update at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Along with an increase of 130 cases from Tuesday, one new death — a male over the age of 60 with underlying health issues — has been reported.

Eight new hospitalizations due to the virus were reported, bringing the state total to 221. Roughly half of the cases requiring hospitalization have been 46-64 years of age, with 25-44 and 65-84 splitting the other half.

State epidemiologist Angela Dunn said only 15% of coronavirus cases in the state came from unknown community spread, 70% came from known contact with a confirmed case, 11% were travel related and 4% came from healthcare facilities, like nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
