Utah Coronavirus Updates, Thursday, April 9

There are 1,976 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Utah as of Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. This is an increase of 130 — or 7% — from Wednesday.

In Utah, 168 people have been hospitalized due to the virus so far — less than 10% of the cases — and half of those have needed ICU care, according to state epidemiologist Angela Dunn. Dunn said 38,373 Utahns have been tested, and 2,257 of those results were confirmed yesterday. Dunn said testing has been increased to 4-5,000 Utahns per day, thanks in part to the 'Crush the Curve' partnership between the state and private companies. In fact, Dunn said the state now has the capacity to test every patient with symptoms, not just the most severe cases.

More information will be available after the media briefing at 1:30 p.m. today.
