Utah Hosts 'Grammys'-type Music Awards Thursday

UMA
Utah's first-ever music awards will be held Thursday.

On Thursday, Utah will host their own version of the Grammys. The “Utah Music Awards” or “UMA’s” will be a glamorous evening of awards and performances, giving Utahns their chance to get the “Hollywood Treatment” in the Beehive State.

If you were asked what the bands Neon Trees, Imagine Dragons, The Used, Royal Bliss, Panic and the Disco and The Killers all have in common, what would you say? It’s a little known fact that all of these bands actually got their start in Utah.

Warren Workman is the producer of the first ever Utah Music Awards, creating every aspect of the show from the performances to the after party, and everything in between.

“It’s a black-tie affair, everyone dresses up. We have a lot of really outstanding musicians performing live. So it’ll be a lot of fun,” said Workman.

He and his team are ready to put on an unforgettable, star-studded show featuring musical artists Amy Whitcomb and Nathan Osmond as hosts.

“We want to raise awareness of the outstanding musicians who are creating beautiful pieces of work here in the state. We want to showcase not only the musician’s talent, but the infrastructure’s talent like the engineers or the studios. And so we have special awards for those categories as well.”

There will be 15 awards that night, mixed with seven live performances. The best in genre awards will include best in Country, Pop, Alternate, Instrumental, Christian, Rock, Covers and Singles.

The UMA’s will be held at the Covey Center in Provo with a pre-show magic show at 6 PM, followed by the main event at 7 PM.
