Utah House Majority Leader announces resignation

Rep. Francis Gibson (R-Mapleton), the majority leader of the Utah House of Representatives, announced Tuesday he will be resigning from the Legislature on November 8 to focus on his career and family.Gibson has served in the House for 13 years. He became the majority leader in 2018. Gibson says serving in the House has been “the honor of a lifetime” and it was not an easy decision to resign from the Legislature.

Utah House Republicans will meet in mid-November to fill Gibson’s position. The Utah County Republican Party will fill his House seat later this year.

In a joint statement, Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson say they are “grateful for the countless hours of service he's given and the thoughtful approach he’s brought to solving some of the toughest problems facing Utah.”
