Utah House Passes Resolution Honoring Donovan Mitchell

In response to disparaging comments made to Utah Jazz player Donovan Mitchell last week by former basketball player and current NBA sports analyst Shaquille O’ Neal, the Utah House passed a resolution on Tuesday to honor Mitchell.

The text of the resolution sponsored by Representative Kera Birkland celebrates both Mitchell’s athletic accomplishments over his time playing for the Jazz as well as noting his contributions to the state of Utah, specifically the service he has provided to Utah students.

In addition to playfully throwing shade at O’Neal with statements like “Shaq under-develops his hot takes almost as well as his 1990's "Shaq Fu" video game,” the resolution also suggests that House members consider making the “spida” the official arachnid of the state of Utah, in honor of Mitchell’s nickname.
