A legislative committee is sending to the full Senate a bill to require lobbyists at the Utah state Capitol to undergo annual anti-harassment training.
The Deseret News reports that Republican Sen. Margaret Dayton of Orem was the only Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Committee member to vote Friday against endorsing HB110.
The measure passed the Utah House on Tuesday on a 58-11 vote.
It comes amid a wave of sexual harassment allegations in governments and businesses nationally. Legislative lawyers have said it wasn't prompted by any Utah cases.
The sponsor, House Republican Jeremy Peterson of Ogden, says the bill is intended to protect lobbyists, state employees and the public.
Utah already requires lawmakers and staff to undergo training about harassment based on sex, religion, race or other factors.
