A federal indictment accuses a 24-year-old Salt Lake City-area man of distributing large quantities of fentanyl, including pills that resulted in the overdose death of a woman.

John Aaron Favro of West Jordan was arrested Thursday on a July 3 indictment charging him with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and conspiracy to distribute fentanyl.

A complaint filed in the case said a woman identified only as M.K.K. died Nov. 21, 2016, from an apparent overdose at an apartment in Murray.

Favro pleaded not guilty Thursday, and defense attorney Bel-Ami de Montreux told The Associated Press in an email Friday that his client after learning of the accusations surrendered to authorities "to face the charges and ultimately clear his name."

Prosecutors said Favro could face life in prison if convicted.
