Utahns are doing better than expected this fire season, according to the state’s fire prevention coordinator Kait Webb. There were no significant firework-related wildfires near Pioneer Day.
Last week, firefighters statewide responded to 11 wildfires that were caused by people. That’s fewer than any previous Pioneer Day holiday week on record.
Webb says she is overjoyed people have been listening and responding to the heightened concern during this year’s drought.
Despite the low number of human-caused fires, there were a total of 69 naturally occurring wildfires last week in Utah. Webb says they were all contained well and firefighters were able to put them all out within the first day.
