A group of 57 Utah firefighters was sent to Oregon Sunday to help fight the state’s rapidly-growing wildfires.
The group is made up of fire firefighters from nine Utah fire agencies. They were deployed from the Maverik Center in West Valley City Sunday morning. The deployment is part of the Emergency Assistance Compact that coordinates state-to-state mutual aid through emergency agencies. Utah offered to help through the EAC and Oregon accepted.
It is planned the firefighters will remain in Oregon for 14 working days plus travel days, according to the Utah Division of Emergency Management.
