Utah Teen Ordered To Juvenile Detention For Deadly Shooting

Cache County

A Utah teenager has been sentenced to a juvenile detention facility for the deadly shooting of a 16-year-old boy.

The judge at the sentencing hearing Thursday did not set a specific detention term for the 15-year-old shooter, allowing the youth parole board to determine it.

The maximum amount of time the teen could be held in the juvenile facility is until his 21st birthday.

The teen pleaded guilty in June to second-degree manslaughter in the death of Jerrad Jacobsen.

The teen told authorities that he thought the shotgun was unloaded when fired it inside a Kearns home in March.

He apologized on Thursday, telling the court that he will regret the shooting for the rest of his life.
