Utah's centrist United Utah Party has nominated a senior Mormon missionary center leader in a race for U.S. Congress.
The third party nominated Tim Zeidner Tuesday evening to replace Melanie McCoard, its former nominee for Utah's 3rd Congressional District who the party says dropped out due to health reasons.
Zeidner is the director of research and evaluation at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Missionary Training Center in Provo.
He said in a statement he hopes to move the party forward and increase its popularity.
Zeidner will be the underdog against incumbent Republican Rep. John Curtis and Democrat college professor James Singer.
The United Utah Party was formed last year and hopes to seize on the anxiety many voters in deep-red Utah have expressed amid the rise of President Donald Trump.
