Utah's State, Federal Officials Want To Be 'At The Table' For Public Land Conversations

Utah’s Congressional Delegation and many state leaders, including Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, issued a statement Wednesday opposing President Joe Biden’s executive order directing the Department of the Interior to review the boundaries and conditions of the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments.

The statement urges the new administration to “bring the State of Utah to the table and work with state and local elected leaders toward a consensus product, including a permanent solution approved by Congress.” According to the statement, because nearly two-thirds of the state is federal land, land management actions are often done to the state, rather than with the state. The statement asked for efforts to solve the root of the problem, rather than another executive order.
