World-Class Young Pianists Compete and Impress in Salt Lake

A world-class piano competition is going on this week and next in Salt Lake City featuring some of the most talented young people in the world.

In order to compete in the Gina Bachauer Junior & Young Artist Piano Competitions, contestants auditioned in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Moscow, Venice, Hamburg, and New York City. The best of the best earned a place at the competition in Salt Lake.

Winners can expect big cash prizes, medals and recording contracts. A number of past winners over the years have gone on to illustrious performance careers.

There are 65 competitor-performers from all over the world, including local pianist Tiffany Xu of Sandy.

The performances take place at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City and there's a live webcam trained on the pianists, so anyone can enjoy the show even if they can't make it to the venue.

The International Junior Piano Competition (ages 11 - 13)  takes place June 18 - 25
The International Young Artists Piano Competition (ages 14 - 18) takes place June 25 - 30
