Zoonosis And One Health

It’s estimated that more than 6 out of every 10 known infectious diseases in people can be spread from animals, and that 3 out of every 4 new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals.

Scientists in Utah State University’s Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences and the USU School of Veterinary Medicine study and teach concepts of One Health, a cross-disciplinary approach to achieving optimal health for people, animals, and our shared environment. Working across disciplines is crucial as people move into areas that previously were wildlife habitat and as climate change alters the environmental boundaries of where insects and wildlife can survive.
