The Utah COVID-19 Community Task Force is recommending Utah hospitals and healthcare systems establish designated sites to screen for novel Coronavirus infections, including screening options for residents living in rural Utah.The task force, led by Utah Lt.

Utah health officials say a woman older than 60 who had traveled recently to Florida, Nevada and the Bahamas is the second person in Utah to be diagnosed with the new coronavirus. Utah state epidemiologist Angela Dunn said Tuesday no community spread has been identified in Utah. She says both people contracted the virus while traveling outside Utah. The woman is in stable condition at a hospital in Ogden. The woman and man with the virus are not related. The woman first had a cough and fever and later more severe respiratory symptoms.

Mormons to hold major conference without attendees

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says it will hold a major conference in April that features speeches by top leaders without any attendees because of the spread of the coronavirus. The Utah-based faith said Wednesday in a news release that the speeches will only be broadcast via television and the internet with no public in attendance. The twice-yearly conference usually brings about 100,000 to Salt Lake City over two days.

Second New Coronavirus Case Identified In Northern Utah

A second person in Utah has been diagnosed with the new coronavirus. The Utah Department of Health said Tuesday the person is older than 60 and in serious but stable condition at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. The patient from the Weber-Morgan County area is believed to have contracted the virus during extensive travels outside Utah and the U.S. Authorities are now working to identify and contact anyone who may have been in close contact with the person. Those people will be monitored for symptoms. Anyone who has traveled recently and has similar symptoms is asked to notify their doctor.

The Utah Department of Health (UDOH) and the Weber-Morgan Health Department (WMHD) Tuesday announced the state’s second case of COVID-19.

Amid apprehension about a possible outbreak of coronavirus, Utah lawmakers are distancing themselves from a political mainstay of handshaking while a major business conference scheduled for mid-March with Michelle Obama speaking has been canceled. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that signs posted around the capitol on Tuesday declared public spaces to be “a handshake-free zone,” for lawmakers and visitors. Qualtrics International Inc. announced Tuesday it is postponing its annual summit to the fall.

Officials say a St. George man who was infected with the coronavirus on a cruise ship in Japan has been transferred from California to a high-level isolation unit at a Utah hospital. Intermountain Medical Center officials announced Friday the hospital would be treating 55-year-old Mark Jorgenson after he asked to be closer to home. Joregenson and his wife were passengers aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship that quarantined hundreds of people this month.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is postponing a key April meeting of its top global leaders because of the spread of the new virus that originated in China. The faith announced Thursday it is also discouraging many church members who live outside the U.S. from coming to Utah for much larger church event that same week. The leadership meeting brings together church leaders who gather behind closed doors to discuss the faith's policies. It has been rescheduled for October. The larger church conference scheduled for that weekend of April 4th is still on for U.S.

As concern over coronavirus continues to grow, Govern Gary Herbert said officials in the state are working to ensure Utah is prepared. Although there are currently no confirmed cases of cornoavirus in Utah, people are wondering what would happen if the outbreak began to spread rapidly in the United States.
