Asian Student Club At Local High School Raises Funds For Afghan Women

A local high school Asian Student Association (ASA) and the nonprofit Student 2 Student joined together on Sept. 18 to raise money for Afghan female students. Community members donated money and purchased products, bringing the total to a little over $200.

A group of protesters gathered Sunday at the Utah State Capitol to speak out against the current Taliban control in Afghanistan. 

Family members and friends of fallen Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover arrived in Utah Sunday for a memorial vigil. Hundreds of Utahns, many carrying American flags, greeted them by chanting “U-S-A.”

After nearly 20 years of deployment, the sacrifice of over 2,000 American lives, and $2 trillion dollars of taxpayer’s money being spent on the war in Afghanistan, so much is unknown about why the recent events in Afghanistan played out the way they did. 

On Wednesday Gov. Spencer Cox gave updates about Afghani refugees coming to Utah. 

In the wake of the Taliban conquering Afghanistan, Utah Congressman Blake Moore is calling for the United States intelligence community to report on the information provided to President Biden from January to August of this year.

Utah stands ready to welcome Afghan refugees, according to the state’s officials. 

The annual Utah Arts Festival attracts artists from all over Utah and the American West.  Most vendors focus on exhibiting works that appeal to the masses: mountainous landscapes, cute comical portraits, furniture and fashion goods.  But one fine artist’s booth stood out among the typical art festival tents.
