  A student at Gunnison Valley High School is in custody and facing multiple sexual abuse charges.

The 16-year-old student was arrested Friday afternoon and charged in the county’s juvenile court with six counts of first-degree felony object rape and five charges of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

UPDATE: Crews have opened the I-15 Northbound lanes Tuesday around 12 p.m. UDOT is still warning drivers that flooding is possible throughout the day.

A Richfield man could face at least 15 years in prison after a large drug bust in Sevier County on Tuesday.

Jason Saunders was arrested with 3/4th of a pound of pure crystal meth. According to Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis, Saunders has been dealing meth out of his home. He also had firearms in his home, which increases his charges.

The U.S. national anthem before an NFL game is a common scene, except in this case, there’s one player who’s taken a knee. On a field with members of the military standing in salute and the audience on their feet, Colin Kaepernick is kneeling.


It has a long name, the Intergovernmental Internship Cooperative or IIC. This month, the program received the National Parks Service Director’s Award for Partnerships.

According to Teri Saa, management assistant at Cedar Breaks National Monument and administrator of the internship program, this program is the first of its kind.

Scientists from the University of Utah will be studying the Salt Flats in Utah for the next two years. 

The Bonneville Salt Flats have attracted racers who want to break a land speed record for years. The texture and thickness of the salt is perfect for going fast—really fast.

But beyond just the racing, the area has one of the largest potash mines. Potash has a lot potassium and is sold as a fertilizer. The flats also offer a unique recreational area.

Campus Pride is an educational organization for LGBT students and college campus groups. In the past, the organization released a "shame list" of 57 colleges. According to Campus Pride, the colleges all discriminate against LGBT youth through Title IX exemptions. This year’s list includes 102 religious colleges. Campus Pride claims all colleges discriminate against LGBT youth in policies, programs and practices.


Nine students who began their college education in Asia will finish their degrees here in Utah this year. The University of Utah’s Asia campus works with the South Korean government to bring students to Utah. It also helps students from Utah learn outside the U.S.

A few months ago, Cynthia Burrows and Aaron Fleming, professors at the University of Utah, had a simple question about the Zika virus.

“I stuck my head in the lab and said, ‘Are there any G-quadruplexes in the Zika genome? I wonder what it looks like,'" Burrows said. "And Aaron said, ‘I don’t know, I’ll go look.'"

The Perseids meteor shower will peak during Thursday night and early Friday morning. According to experts, this year’s shower could be one of the most spectacular because of an increased rate of meteors.

Students Build Homes In the Navajo Nation

Each spring, a group of graduate students studying architecture at the University of Utah move to Bluff, Utah. Before the move, they prepare plans for homes and other structures they plan to build. For this year’s project, students designed and built a gateway to the Bluff community educational campus.

After the recent attack at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, lighting designers began discussing online ideas on how lighting could save lives and possibly slow down shooters.
