'Saudade': a Brazilian word for longing

“Anunciacao” sung by Brazilian musician Anderson Safre is an example of the kind of music you think of when you think of Brazil. What words do you think of when you think of Brazil? Samba? Carnival? Acai? Many people think of the word “saudade.” 

In yesterday's first part of the story about Day of the Dead, Manuel Girón gave us a glimpse on the importance of the Day of the Dead holiday. In this second part, he tells us about many unique traditions families share on this day.

"Remember that you will die..." 

On today's spooky edition of Access Utah, we talked with some of Utah State University's foremost experts on the history, art and tradition of death. 

A new online exhibit sponsored by the USU's University Libraries "traces the thematic iconographies of death, dying and mourning."

Titled "Memento Mori," Latin for "Remember that you will die," the exhibit shows how symbols of death and the afterlife became dominant in art with the dawn of western Christianity.

The band Beats Antique integrates elements of many musical styles into their records, ultimately producing a widely appreciated style that appeals to a diverse range of listeners. Their performances are popular due to their visual components: colorful lights create moving shapes covering the stage and a dynamic dancer comes and goes throughout the show.

Utah Theatre To Open After a Decade Of Restoration

When Michael Ballam, the founding general director of the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, came home from sabbatical in Italy 10 years ago, he saw the Utah Theatre at 18 W. Center St. - closed at the time - and knew instantly he wanted to reopen it.
