In 2017, the unemployment rate in the United States fell across the board. But fewer than 19 percent of people with disabilities were employed, compared with more than 65 percent of the general population, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Among people actively looking for work, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is more than double that of the general population.

A Utah family who sued the Boy Scouts of America for policies they claimed discriminated against their son with Down syndrome has withdrawn the lawsuit after the organization said it would help the boy earn his Eagle Scout award.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that attorneys for 15-year-old Logan Blythe's family met March 27 with national Boy Scouts representatives.

The father of a boy who has Down syndrome is suing the Boys Scouts of America for blocking his son from becoming an Eagle scout and revoking his merit badges.

Logan Blythe has been a scout through the National Parks Council in Utah. His father, Chad, says the 15-year-old has advanced because the council has made accommodations when necessary.

A Utah Senate committee has approved legislation barring abortions sought because a fetus has been diagnosed with Down syndrome.

The Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee voted 3-2 in favor of the bill Monday.

A bill introduced in the House Judiciary Committee Thursday seeks to prohibit abortions, if the reason for the procedure is a positive diagnosis of Down syndrome.

The Planned Parenthood Association of Utah says a Utah lawmaker's bill to bar doctors from performing abortions sought because of a diagnosis of Down syndrome is about restricting access to abortion, not protecting those with Down syndrome.

The association's President and CEO Karrie Galloway said in a statement Monday that the decision to terminate a pregnancy is "a deeply personal and sometimes complex decision" that should be left to women, their families, their doctors and their faiths."
