A Utah man is suing McDonald's alleging that an employee spiked his Diet Coke with a heroin substitute.

The 33-year-old Trevor Walker says he was with his three young sons in August 2016 when he suddenly lost control of his arms and legs and had to be taken to the hospital. Walker says in his lawsuit that authorities later determined the drink contained a heroin replacement called buprenorphine.

Officials of a northern Utah county are suing drug manufacturers, distributors and doctors in an effort to mitigate the consequences of the nation's opioid crisis.

Summit County on Tuesday filed a lawsuit in state district court against 25 companies and individuals, seeking a jury trial and an unspecified financial award for damages.

Jurors began deliberations over whether three toddlers injured in a Utah day care were deliberately harmed by their baby sitter, or if a series of accidents were grouped and labeled a crime.

Deliberations began Wednesday in the case against Murray day care owner Kami Kay Tollefson, who is charged with three counts of child abuse.

John Swallow filed a lawsuit Tuesday, seeking about $1.6 million in reimbursement from the state to pay for his defense.

A Republican-dominated commission made the decision Wednesday after a consulting team said its research concludes the Constitution doesn't give the U.S. government power to control federal lands within state borders.
