Everyone who lives in Utah is aware that we have plenty of mule deer. If you’ve lived here for any appreciable amount of time, you’ve probably seen gopher snakes and maybe even a quail or two, but there are some wildlife species here in Utah that are a little harder to glimpse.

To summit the peak of Mount Everest is an iconic challenge that attracts mountaineers from around the world. However, the journey to the peak is dangerous, and in 2019 eleven people died on the mountain, the highest death count since 2011.

Vaccine hesitancy is a growing phenomenon across the United States and in Utah in particular.  According to the Utah Department of Health, Utah ranks 41st among for the percentage of children who have received the complete set of recommended childhood vaccinations.

Driven To Succeed: Race Day Has Finally Arrived

The go-cart track at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda is a winding loop of asphalt almost a mile long. It is surrounded by the rest of the campus: several large warehouses storing race cars, mechanical equipment of various types and concession counters offering cold drinks, but mostly… asphalt.  

In the UPR original series Driven To Succeed, we’ve been following seven college freshman and their mentors as they work to build a wirelessly powered electric car. In this second installment, we get to know the students a bit better, as they work through the trials of engineering a car using brand new technology.

  One in three senior citizens dies with a dementia-causing disease - most commonly, Alzheimer’s. A diagnosis with one of these diseases can be dreadful, as there are currently no effective treatments. In this installment of our series “Diagnosed,” we talked with one Utah couple adjusting to a disease with no effective long-term treatment and no cure.

A research team based in Helsinki, Finland announced recently that they have developed a vaccine to treat foulbrood, a bacterial infection that kills honey bee larvae.  The scientists based out of the University of Helsinki say they are able to increase honey bees’ resistance to the bacteria.

Legislators, proponents and opponents of Proposition 2, a ballot initiative to legalize the use of cannabis products for medical purposes in Utah, struck a compromise on Thursday.  Legislators will vote on a bill resulting from the compromise shortly after the upcoming mid-term elections.

After evening classes in 2014, a University of Utah student was stopped at an unchanging red light. Being the only one at the intersection caused him to think there was a better way to engineer traffic infrastructure. That’s when the business and law student came up with an idea to improve traffic technology applications for the government.
