“Bon giorno!” That’s how Governor Herbert, fresh off a trade mission to Europe, greeted the press corps at his monthly press conference on Thursday. Executives from 23 Utah companies traveled with the Governor, who said that the state is starting to gain real recognition on the world stage.

With the 2020 United States Census approaching, the Utah State Legislature is preparing for the redistricting that comes with it. The legislature is responsible for creating congressional, legislative and school districts based on data from the census.


Cori Groth is the associate director of the Utah Education Policy Center. The policy center conducted a study on after-school programs in Utah that were created after the legislature passed a bill in 2014 calling for intergenerational poverty intervention in public schools.

The ongoing power struggle continues as the Utah state legislature overrides two of Gov. Gary Herbert's vetoes. Four of six citizen initiatives will likely end up on the ballot in November, including one to expand Medicaid and another to legalize medical marijuana.
