Flooding in St. George leaves mud and debris

St. George street crews are mopping up a day after a 15-minute downpour caused mud and other debris to clock storm drains and flood city streets with nearly three feet of water in some areas.

St. George street crews had to wait for the rain to stop and water to drain away before they could work to remove mud and debris from clogged drainage grates.

This time there have been no reports of serious damage to homes and businesses. In September 2012 a wall of water flooded a Santa Clara neighborhood after sustained rains caused a break in a century-old earthen dike, and one business only reopened in February from that damage.

Southern Utah could see more street-flooding showers before this latest low-pressure system moves eastward.
